About Me
As the footer says, I'm a Computing Science teacher in a Scottish secondary school. I've been teaching since 2018 (in my current school since 2019). I've done N5, Higher, and bits and pieces from the NPAs.
Before that, I was a PhD student (no, I didn't finish) π. I was researching programming language design, computing education, and HCI, designing a programming language and editor that would minimise cognitive load for a learner. I've got publications, like in the ACM Transactions on Computing Education and the British HCI Conference. I've got a first class degree in Computing from GCU π§βπ, where I won the "Creative Computing" prize for my uni year group π€ͺ. My honours focus was all about computing education and HCI/UX/interaction design.
I'm on the STACS Reference Group, and I started/led #cssmeets. I've been an acting PT PEF (Home & Digital Learning). I've been a marker, and I've also written some of the assessments for one of the SQA NPAs - I won't say which π€.
I'm a Makey Makey Ambassador π. I'm a Raspberry Pi Certified Educator, and I like to tinker with things like robotic plants and a missile-firing Grinchπ€.
